Hannah's Story

I’m Hannah, I’m 30 and I discovered Scamp & Dude in 2020. One of the reasons that I love Scamp & Dude so much is the idea of having a super power boost through your clothes when you need it.

I was born very prematurely at 25 weeks and weighed 1lb 13oz. I was a triplet and the smallest of the three babies. Sadly I was the only baby to survive being born so early.

When I was about 2 years old I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and treated for this throughout my childhood with painful physiotherapy, leg splints and Botox injections into my muscles. I was also diagnosed with Growth Hormone deficiency when I was 9 and had to take growth hormone injections to help me develop. I’ve suffered from chronic pain and fatigue for as long as I can remember and this stems back to my childhood too.

In June 2019, I went to see a Neurologist who had been recommended to me. (With support from my Mum). This neurologist asked my Mum who had diagnosed me with Cerebral Palsy to which she replied: “Hannah’s Doctors did”.

He then said something which changed the course of my life. Which was: “I don’t believe that to be the case.”

He was right. MRIs of my brain proved there were no neurological abnormalities present and that my diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy had been wrong for all of this time.

Four years on from this, I’m now on my second lot of Genetic testing and I have also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia since then. The thought is that I have a genetic condition rather than Cerebral Palsy, the long term pain I have is caused by Fibromyalgia and my co-ordination and dexterity issues are caused by having Dyspraxia.

Through the past three years since I discovered S&D, I’ve reached for their clothes to give me strength while I’m going through all of this. It’s been really difficult. My entire life felt like it was wrong when I first found out and waiting so long for answers hasn’t helped to ease my mind. I’ve definitely needed those superpowers.

The fact that I can put on a cosy cardigan, a comfy t-shirt or a gorgeous dress to lift my mood really does help me keep going sometimes. I also love people asking where my clothes are from so I can pass on how wonderful Scamp & Dude is to others.
